Rooted in Family
Arbor Valley Nursery’s roots run deep, all the way back to 1980 when Roy and Dave Edmundson opened our nursery. Father and son shared a love for the land and a passion for growing and tending plants. They also saw a need in the market for locally grown trees that would thrive in our Colorado climate—sowing the seeds of our vision.
Branching Out
As these early seeds grew, they branched into shrub and perennial production, as well as into a distribution hub supporting out-of-state partners and other growers serving the Colorado region. With his degree in horticulture and hands-on experience, Dave grew Arbor Valley Nursery into the region’s leading strategic landscape provider with a strong reputation for service and expertise. He also brought Matt, the third Edmundson generation, into the business in 1997.
Difficult seasons
In 2006, Dave leveraged the business and bought Henkel Farm to prepare for additional growth. It proved to be the wrong time. The Great Recession slowed construction, and demand for plant material tumbled dramatically. These pressures brought Arbor Valley Farm to the brink of failure—and during the crisis, Dave’s health waned. He passed in 2010.
Plants are nothing if not resilient—and the same is true of our business. When Matt took over, despite serious challenges he saw an opportunity to grow in a new direction to serve customers in an entirely new way.
Growing toward the future
Today, it is because of our understanding of failure that our business is thriving—and helping our clients do the same. Over the last 12 years, we’ve reimagined every aspect of our business to create success for our customers.
